With the lack of scheduled flights to its tiny airstrip and at the mercy of the regular ferry schedule, visitors to the island of Hvar looking for quick transfers will be able to take advantage of a new transfer service for the 2011 season, offered by local company, Hvar Boat Rent.
Sea Transfers to Split, Vis, Bol, Korcula and Dubrovnik
With a flexible approach and large fleet of boats at their disposal, there is an enviable choice of boats available for transfers, all inclusive of skipper and refreshments, with prices varying according to travel time and time of season.
High season for the most popular route to Split Airport, for example, range from 850 euro in a Sea Ray (ten passengers) in peak season or 680 euro in winter, to the cheapest transfer in a Kamarina 630, eight passengers at 450 euro in August, 350 in December.
Other destinations include the island of Vis, Korcula and Brac (the resort of Bol), while the furthest destination – Dubrovnik – can be reached for 2,200 euro in peak season in a 10m Sea Ray or for 1,600 in a 9.6m Sun Sport 270.
Speedboat Tours: Brac, Kornati, Vis, Korcula, Dubrovnik
Tourists with a little more time can choose from an impressive selection of speedboats tours, including the unmissable Pakleni Islands, a string of tiny islands opposite Hvar Town and arguably the prettiest in all Croatia.
Tours further afield include the island of Vis and the Blue Cave at Bisevo, the island of Brac and the infamous shifting beach of Zlatni Rat, the island of Korcula, birthplace of Marco Polo, and a mainland tour, taking in Diocletian's Palace in Split, the seven castled villages of Kastela and a hearty lunch Trogir. More expansive tours of Dubrovnik and the Kornati Islands are also available.
Water Sport Accessories
While speedboat transfers are beyond the means of the majority of tourists to Hvar, the good news is that there are a range of more affordable water sport options for hire, including wakeboarding, water-skiing, banana rides, paddle-boats, canoes and water hammocks. All tours and equipment hire may be conveniently booked from four booking points: outside Carpe Diem, Hotel Amfora and the Amfora pool, and in front of the Arsenal by the main square.
Combined with the sailing and kayaking tours offered by activity specialist Hvar Adventure, there is a comprehensive water sports offer for Hvar, while there is also plenty to do away from the beach.
